RE
“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. Against such things there is no law.” - Galatians 5:22
Intent
Religious education contributes dynamically to children by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, reality, issues of right and wrong, and what it means to be human. As a Church school we teach understanding, respect and tolerance for different people’s beliefs and faiths both within and beyond Christianity as well as encouraging our children to be interested and find out more about other faiths and their impact on society, culture and the wider world.
Implementation
Across school, our children learn about Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and Humanism, with visits to places of worship and welcoming visitors into school, forming a vital part of this rich curriculum. We have strong links with the church in West Malvern and regularly use the building for acts of worship and collective praise. We aim to encourage our children to think for themselves, discuss and debate, back up their arguments with evidence and ask questions within a safe, respectful and open learning environment. Through the Worcestershire Agreed Syllabus for RE and the Understanding Christianity Project to effectively and creatively teach RE as an academic subject and equip children with the skills and knowledge to study RE effectively at High School and beyond. RE provides a space for children to think about their own beliefs, those of others, and wider issues in the world, thus developing interpersonal skills to become thoughtful, responsible, caring citizens.
