PSHE
“In the long history of humankind (and animalkind too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.” - Charles Darwin
Intent
PSHE education helps pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage life’s challenges and make the most of life’s opportunities. There is evidence to show that PSHE education can address teenage pregnancy, substance misuse, unhealthy eating, lack of physical activity, emotional health and other key issues. Learning in this area can also tackle barriers to learning, raise aspirations, and improve the life chances of all learners including the most vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils.
Implementation
At St James’ CE Primary, the PSHE curriculum is split into three core themes; Living in the Wider World, Relationships, and Health and Wellbeing. Each year group will follow the same theme each term, with the learning objectives and outcomes progressing through the year groups. Each class will work within the suggested framework and teach lessons according to their children’s needs. This is linked to The Christopher Winter Project that covers key Sex and Relationship education across all year groups in an appropriate manner. Some of these key learning opportunities are also covered in the Science curriculum in terms of health and the Computing curriculum in terms of e-safety.
