Where are we now?

Autumn Term 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Class 4!  I hope you have had a lovely summer break and you were all able to relax and catch up with loved ones.

Our Theme this term is Where are we now?  This is a geography driven theme, looking at the human and physical geographical features of Scandinavia, and comparing this to Malvern. If you have visited or from these countries and would be comfortable to talk to the class, please get in touch. In science, we are looking at animals, including humans.  In maths, we will be starting with recapping our place value understanding then moving onto the four operations. In English, we will be reading the book ‘Brightstorm’ and our writing will be based around this text and our non-fiction writing will be about Scandinavia. In design and technology, we will be learning about cooking and looking to different bread and how we can create a loaf of bread.  In art, we will be looking a Scandinavian art, and the painting ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch.   Our R.E. we will be exploring the question, ‘Creation and Science: Conflicting or Complementary’.  In computing, we will be learning about creating media and web page design.  In Spanish, we will be recapping greetings and counting and then learning how to order in a Spanish café.

Home Learning will continue to be sent home at the beginning of term. Within this, there are many opportunities for your child to earn star merits. Learning should be brought into school on Friday. I will also be setting further maths and English tasks to compliment the class learning which will be handed out on a Friday to return the following Wednesday. If for any reason home learning cannot be done, please let me know.

Spellings will continue to be sent home on Fridays, with the children being tested the following Friday.

Children should be reading every night and writing it in their diaries, which are checked every day. Thank you for your support with this.  There is a reading challenge for the children to take part in and earn more star merit points.

P.E. will be on Thursdays. As we are able to use the lockers again, the children can bring in their P.E. kit to leave in school and get changed in school.  A reminder that P.E. kit is a school PE t-shirt and shorts/ joggers, with a school jumper. Long hair should be tied back and earrings removed or covered with tape. This term we are doing High 5 netball.

On Tuesday mornings, Class 4 will be taking part in Forest School with Miss Wright. This will begin on Tuesday 14th September. On this day, children will need to come to school in their Forest School clothing (long trousers, long sleeve top, jumper, hat, gloves – weather dependent) and have their waterproof trousers, coat and school uniform in a labelled bag. This is so the children can get changed into dry clean clothes afterwards.

The class 4 team continues to be Mrs Hawkins (Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri) and Mrs Jackson (Wed) , as well as myself. As always, if you have any questions, please do get in touch,

Many thanks,

Mrs Landon
