Welcome to Class 3, Autumn 2019 - 18 September 2019
WELCOME TO CLASS THREE!
As we are a few weeks into term, I thought I would share some information about life in Class 3! The children have settled into Term 1 very well, with the Y4’s being super buddies to their Y3 friends. Thank you to those who came along to our Meet the Teacher afternoon, below is information from that meeting. I’m really looking forward to working with your child and you during the next year, please do get in touch if you have any questions, concerns or news. To do this, ring school or drop me an email sl306@stjames.worcs.sch.uk. 😊
Swimming is on Monday mornings, please ensure your child has their swimming kit for this day. Lessons will be taking place at The Elms School. P.E. is on Tuesday however; the children will need their kits in school ALL WEEK as this may sometimes change. Due to the changeable British weather we maybe inside or outside for these sessions, so foot wear appropriate for both eventualities and a spare pair of socks are very useful. If your child’s hair is longer than shoulder length, then a hair band will also need to be packed. Ear rings should be removed or covered with plasters provided from home. Please label all kit.
Home Learning will be sent home on a Friday. The home learning will have a guide sheet to explain how to complete the work. The tasks will be Literacy, Numeracy and theme based, ranging from times tables to sculptures. Home learning is to be handed in by Wednesday morning. If for any reason home learning cannot be done, please let me know.
Spellings will be sent home on Fridays; the children are encouraged to use the strategies we have learnt in class to learn their spellings. Children will be tested the following Friday. The children will be learning the spelling rules set out in the National Curriculum, and the Statutory list of Y3/4 words.
Reading – Every child has their own reading record, this is for them to log their reading and review the books they have read. When you read with your child it would be helpful if you could jot down a little note in their reading record and sign it.
Family Time takes place on Thursday afternoons. Throughout the year, children will be attending a different family time learning activity each term. These include; cooking, crafts, yoga, outside learning, drama and sports. When your child attends cooking and outdoor learning, you will receive a letter regarding clothing and ingredients.
Our first Theme this year is Plastic…fantastic? We very much enjoyed our trip to Bishops Wood, which linked well to our learning. If you have a strong passion to protect the environment, know an artist who uses recycled materials or a local environmentalist who would speak to our children, please get in touch.
If you have any questions at any time throughout the year, please do not hesitate to speak to me, or any of the teaching assistants.
Many thanks,
Mrs Landon
