Summer Term 2021
Summer Term 2021
Welcome back to Class 4! I hope it was a lovely break and you were all able to enjoy the unusual weather we had! We will be launching ourselves into our new theme and learning, below is an outline of the upcoming summer term for your information.
Our Theme this term is Going for Gold! This is a geography and PE driven theme, looking at the human and physical geographical features of Japan, then the ancient and modern Olympics, in preparation for the Olympics this coming summer. This learning will continue to the end of the Summer 2 term. In science, we are continuing our learning about light, then we will be moving onto forces. In maths, we will be learning about ratio, properties of shape, position and direction, and statistics. We will be revisiting learning from the whole year too, to help prepare all the children for their continued learning next year. In English, we will be writing a narrative based on Kensuke’s Kingdom, haiku poems and a report about life in Tokyo. In design and technology, we will be learning about healthy food choices and healthy snacks. In art, we will be looking a Japanese art, in particular the work of Hokusai. Our R.E. we will be answering the questions, ‘What did Jesus do to save human beings?’ and ‘How does faith help people when things get hard?’. In computing, we will be learning about spreadsheets and video editing.
Home Learning will continue to be sent home at the beginning of term. Within this, there are many opportunities for your child to earn star merits. Learning should be brought into school on Friday. I will also be setting further maths and English tasks to compliment the class learning which will be handed out on a Friday to return the following Wednesday. If for any reason home learning cannot be done, please let me know.
Spellings will continue to be sent home on Fridays, with the children being tested the following Friday.
Reading – Children should be reading every night and writing it in their diaries, which are checked everyday. Thank you for your support with this.
P.E. continues to be on Tuesdays, and the children will still need to come to school in their kits. A reminder that P.E. kit is a school PE t-shirt and shorts/ joggers, with a school jumper. Long hair should be tied back and earrings removed and covered with tape.
Summer term is a busy term in Class 4, there are some exciting things coming up, that I hope will ensure the Y6 children – in particular – experience those end of primary school rites of passage. I will keep you informed throughout the term.
As always, if you have any questions, please do get in touch,
