Spring term 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy new year! I hope you all had a restful break and were able to celebrate with loved ones.  

This term our theme is ‘Early Islamic Civilisation’. We will be learning about the significance of Baghdad, the House of Wisdom and comparing this with life in Britain at the time. This theme is driven by history and links well with our previous RE learning.  We will also be learning about printing and Islamic patterns in art. In English, we will be using the book ‘Holes’ to help us write narratives, non-chronological reports and informal letter writing.  Our computing sessions will be about using code to create a game. In science, we will be learning about living things and their habitats, and learning to say these words in Spanish too in our MfL lessons!  Our RE question this term is ‘Why do Hindus try to be good?’

Our PE lessons will continue on Thursday afternoons, this term the children will be learning how to play football. As the weather has got colder recently, please ensure your child has suitable warm clothing for these lessons as they will be outside. Forest School will continue to be on Tuesday mornings, again, please ensure your child has suitable clothing.

For our Y6’s, SATs will be taking place in May, beginning on May 9th This year, the papers will be in Maths (arithmetic and reasoning) , a reading paper and a spelling, grammar and punctuation paper. In preparation for these, I will be starting a SATs booster after school club on Tuesdays, that I hope Y6s will be able to attend. This will run until 4.15pm and will be covering both maths and reading to further prepare the children for SATs.

Children should continue to bring their reading diaries into school everyday and they are expected to read every night. If you have any messages for me, these can be written in the diary or drop me an email on
