Class 3 Spring Term Newsletter - 10 January 2019

Welcome back and Happy New Year. I hope it was a restful and pleasant break. The children have returned and settled back into school life well and have enjoyed our learning so far! I have outlined some information about the upcoming term below.

Our Theme this term is River Deep, Mountain High!  This is a geography driven theme, looking at the formation and features of rivers and mountains, both in the UK and around the world. In science, we are learning about states of matter and the water cycle. In maths, we will be continuing to develop our understanding of the four operations, focussing on how to multiply and divide, fractions and decimals and measurement. In literacy, we will be writing an explanation text, a narrative and poems about rivers. All of this learning will be shared on Thursday 14th February, 2.15-3.15pm. at our KS2 theme celebration. Another date for your diaries is Friday 5th April, which is our class assembly.

Home Learning will continue to be sent home on a Friday. The home learning has a guide sheet to explain how to complete the work. The tasks continue to be Literacy, Numeracy and theme based, ranging from times tables to sculptures. Home learning is to be handed in by Wednesday morning. If for any reason home learning cannot be done, please let me know.

Spellings will continue to be sent home on Fridays, the children are encouraged to use the ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check’ method to learn their spellings. Children will be tested the following Friday. The children will be learning the spelling rules set out in the National Curriculum, and the statutory list of Y3/4 words.

Reading – When you read with your child it would be helpful if you could jot down a little note in their reading record and sign it, thank you.

Forest School will continue to take place on Wednesday afternoons. The children will need their Forest School kit for this day. The clothing requirements vary due to the seasons, but for Spring and Autumn the following is recommended; jogging bottoms or leggings, a long-sleeved top, a jumper or fleece, two pairs of socks, wellies and waterproofs. As the temperatures drop, an extra layer is recommended. All clothing should be labelled and in a bag.

Swimming will continue on Tuesdays, please ensure your child has their swimming kit for this day. P.E. will be on Fridays; however, the children will need their kits in school ALL WEEK as this may sometimes change. This term we will be doing circuit training and dance. If your child’s hair is longer than shoulder length, please ensure they have a hair band to tie it back for these sessions. Also, ear rings should be removed or covered with plasters provided from home. Please check that your child’s kit has labels.

If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Many thanks,

Mrs Landon
